ANONYMS IN THE STONES II
In September and October 2000, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the "Friends of Sant Pere de Ponts", Joanpere Massana held an exhibition in the Gothic Hall of the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs entitled "ANONYMS IN THE STONES (IN SANT PERE DE PONTS). , the catalogue included texts by Arnau Puig, Manuel Gabriel and Carme Vidal:
"This makes Massana, with his knowledge of culture and for this very knowledge, have and feel the need to collect what remains of what has happened and offer it to us alive, suggestive and active - in the plastic field, of course - so that our sensitivity and aesthetic greed are awakened: to find, behind what is seen, what could have been there" (Arnau Puig. Catalogue: "Joanpere Massana. Anònims in the stones (In Sant Pere de Ponts). Gothic Hall. Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs. 2000. )
" Massana's sensitivity, made aesthetic through a creative process, makes us experience that pleasure that art gives us when it manifests itself frankly and sincerely, with nobility and strength, the result of a dedication pampered to the extreme ". Carme Vidal " Joanpere Massana. Anònims a les pedres ( In Sant Pere de Ponts ). Sala Gòtica. Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs. 2000. )
" The history of a community is the history of its spirituality...", " The different elements of a whole, of medieval reminiscences...", " The permanence of the symbol in the unconscious ". Manuel Gabriel. " Joanpere Massana. Anònims a les pedres ( In Sant Pere de Ponts ). Sala Gòtica. Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs. 2000. )
Of the works, a total of 30, once shown in Lleida were exhibited in Milan and Bologna where they remained. The author kept 5, which will be exhibited in an exhibition at the Canònica during the month of April, apart from the installation of feet with elements collected from the surroundings of Sant Pere that will make a journey until reaching the work "Anònims a les pedres" (Mixed on canvas 150 x 150 cm). The exhibition, a total of 40 works, 5 of them large format, will consist of these works from 25 years ago and some of the new ones that he has been making in different series dedicated to this Romanesque canon, the presentation of the commemorative work of the 50th anniversary of the "Amics de Sant Pere" and the preliminary works of this (a total of 24) arranged in the form of an altarpiece, and which collect the iconographies to which the generated work refers.
"The monument and everything that surrounds it have always been a formidable attraction for him, as well as an important source of inspiration in his pictorial work, as corroborated by the fact that he has reproduced them over the course of 25 years in many of the series he has exhibited, from those that represent trades such as the wool carder, the shoemaker, the hemp carder or the farmer (...). Jordi Vidal . Portaveu n. 368, pp 8-10
"The artist through the painting - pictorial volumetry in this case - acts as the essayist who narrates his personal memories or strives to novelize a self-referential fiction (...) to construct a territory of poetic initiation into memories. (...) In many cases - thanks to the volumetric condition -, the works really resemble fragments of nature extracted from the place, with the physiognomy of rocks, of muddy puddles, of paths covered with leaves autumn, with colors of mineral rust, of archaeological sites (...). Josep Miquel Garcia. Reading, Diari Segre. October 1, 2000, page 24.
Presentation of the commemorative work of the 50th anniversary of the Friends of Sant Pere and graphic work
On April 5, the large-format work "Anònims a les pedres", measuring 150 x 150 cm, will be unveiled. A work made with mixed media that includes many of the elements of the Canon and the landscape that surrounds it, and which aims to be a tribute to the rehabilitation work that volunteers from the town have carried out for 50 years, in a totally altruistic way every weekend.
